When travelling, I manage to find an idea of reportage
in order to realize an exhibition when I come back home.
This is what happened when I when to Cuba and when
I saw the poor people in the street : this was so different
from the idealistic pictures of the seaside resorts from
the touristic agencies. This country is not only a place
for nice hollydays at low prices, what you can also see
is the lack of everything essential, the growth of
prostitution and poverty. Prostitutes are said to be
the only citizens having enough money to travel
outside the country.
It was the same in the USA, I was visiting the country
and while discussing with people, I learned that
the politics concerning the crippled soldiers who came
back from various military campaigns had change :
the State had no more money to give to the associations
dealing with them, so they became homeless people.
In New York, homeless people were no more tolerated
because of the image they were showing to foreigners,
so the Mayor, Mr. Rudolph Giulani decided to solve
the problem according to the zero-tolerance principle :
he put them in jail. As a citizen told me, "One day
they were there, the day after they had dissappeared.
So, I began to shoot homeless people, but also
the marginals that you may meet in Los Angeles :
bikers, people living like in a different time
or with funny clothes,…
